IMAG0111

“Thanks very much for the fantastic course and for your hospitality throughout the week. Much appreciated” LB, Level 3 Advanced Gym Maintenance, March 2015

Our Academy training courses cover all aspects from the essentials of how to maintain a variety of gym equipment through to complex diagnosis and fault finding for maintenance professionals. Our training instructors are fully qualified and courses can be tailored to suit specific requirements. The courses are run at our own dedicated training facility in Worcestershire UK or, in the case of Level 1 and 2, they may also be run at your own premises!

At Northwick, we understand that running a gym is a competitive business where fashions and trends frequently change and where customers are increasingly free to move around from gym to gym. We believe that having someone onsite who is trained provides you with a number of competitive advantages which can help differentiate your gym:-

  •  No more equipment downtime waiting for an Engineer to visit
  • Doing your own regular maintenance will actually avoid breakdowns
  • Better utilisation of staff time
  • No more expensive repair bills

Our courses are designed, accredited and facilitated by J.C. Isaacs, Chartered Engineer, BEng (Hons), MIET who is an internationally recognised, independent, technical authority on the repair and maintenance of gym equipment. The content of our courses are used to train (and refresh) our own team of in house professional Engineers who regularly work in gyms the length and breadth of the UK. Their expertise is built on hands-on experience and a thorough understanding of how equipment works. Their experience is regularly fed-back in order to keep the course content relevant and representative of current best practice.

Upon completion of each course, delegate receive a certificate of attendance and free-of-charge login details to our online Technical Academy where they can on-demand access our full library of service bulletins, machine maintenance guides, technical manuals and training videos.

Level 1 Essential Gym Maintenance

Most equipment repairs can be attributed to inadequate or incorrect maintenance and our Level 1 course gives you everything you need to know about correctly setting up and looking after your equipment including how to choose and use tools. The course includes how to perform basic servicing, how to adjust and lubricate treadmill running belts, re-tension drive belts, fit and adjust gym cables, and daily cleaning and inspection routines to help you maximise equipment life and ensure that it is always safe to use. The course is suitable for commercial, private and residential gym operators/owners.

This is a 1 day course and there are no prerequisites or prior experience needed. Prices for Level 1 is £499+VAT per delegate. The course can be run at our Academy training facility or at your own gym. This course runs throughout the year. For more details and to make a booking please contact us at [email protected]

Level 2 Intermediate Gym Maintenance

This is our most popular course and suitable for gym owner/operators who want to have their own in-house maintenance capability. The course is suitable for people who already have a basic understanding of fitness equipment but want to learn more about how the equipment works and how to complete routine maintenance, basic diagnosis and general repairs. The course includes how to strip equipment, identify main components and their function, how to change parts such as treadmill running belts, running decks, drive belt and how to make replacement gym cables. It covers all of the most popular cardio and strength equipment and includes how to complete an annual safety inspection. An assessment of competency is included on the final day.

This is a 3 day course and there are no prerequisites or prior experience needed. Price for Level 2 is £999+VAT per delegate per day. The course can be run at our Academy training facility or at your own gym. This course runs throughout the year. For more details and to make a booking please contact us at [email protected]

 Level 3 Advanced Gym Maintenance

This course is aimed at for staff who are already working at Level 2 and wish to progress to be able to conduct more complex diagnosis and repairs so as to be able to safely handle the majority of gym maintenance and repairs themselves. This includes understanding how machine systems work, understanding design principles, testing and measuring techniques including fault finding of motors, circuit boards, drive systems, batteries and generators. Advanced servicing techniques are learnt so as to be able to predict failures and complete preventative maintenance. Equipment safety is covered including CE marking, UK equipment safety laws and guidelines, PAT testing of class 1 and class 2 gym equipment, RAMS, equipment classification and duty cycle.  The course is 70% hands-on and includes a wide range of real-life fault finding and repairs so as to prepare the delegate for immediate deployment upon completion. An assessment of competency is included on the final day.

This course is run as either a 2 day top-up following on from the completion of the Level 2 course, or it can be run as a straight 5 day course by combining the content of Level 2 and  Level 3 (ie. delegates can complete both the Level 2 and the Level 3 content in one course).  Delegates wishing to complete the straight 5 day Level 3 course are advised to have some prior technical experience in a related discipline otherwise we recommend completing Level 2 first and gaining some hands-on practical knowledge and experience before returning to complete the Level 3 course. Price for Level 3 is £999+VAT per delegate per day. The course is run at our Academy training facility in Worcestershire, UK. This course runs throughout the year. For more details and to make a booking please contact us at [email protected]
